Adventure under the sea

Celebrate Christmas in July by packing a Santa Shoebox.

Wondering what to do with the kids on a cold wet day these winter holidays? Look no further than a watery adventure under the sea with an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of The Little Mermaid, to be staged at the Canal Walk Theatre, from Saturday June 15 to Sunday July 7.

The production is directed by Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer. The pair have also composed the music and lyrics. Alexis Petersen, who was most recently seen on stage in David Kramer’s Langarm at The Fugard Theatre, plays the eponymous mermaid. Cindy-Ann Abrahams is the villainous Sea Witch, while Edith Plaatjies is the Dowager Queen. Matthew Baldwin is the Prince and the King is played by Marcel Meyer.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Santa Shoebox Project, which provides toys, toiletries, clothing, sweet treats and school supplies to underprivileged children.

Show times are 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets are R100 and available through Computicket. Visit www.canalwalk.co.za for details.
