Festival celebrates 10 years of bringing people together

Get ready for 10th DStv Mitchell’s Plain Festival, held from this Friday November 30 to Sunday December 2, at Westridge Gardens in Mitchell’s Plain.

The Plainsman, sister paper of Southern Mail, is the print media partner.

One of the biggest attractions this year will be the SA National Defence Force display, which covers more than two thousand square metres. The SA Army, SA Navy, SA Airforce, SA Medical Services, Sa Military Police and SA Signal Services, will all showcase their services to the community.

More than 150 local and national exhibitors and traders will be offering a variety of food, fashion, toys, technology, educational services and other gadgets. Thousands of rands in cash and prizes will be up for grabs. There will also be a fully-fledged amusement park featuring exciting rides for the young and young at heart as well as massive air and biker shows.

Popular Cape Town radio station, Heart FM will be broadcasting live from the festival grounds on all three days featuring on air personalities Suga, Tyrone Paulsen, Lunga Singame, Irma G and Paul Playdon.

International singing sensations, Sybil and Judy Boucher, will join the more than 60 local artists and entertainers who will be performing across three stages.

Talking about the key objectives of the festival Rozario Brown, the festival director, says: “This festival is also about creating a platform to bring people together, not only from Mitchell’s Plain but from areas across the Cape Flats and the Western Cape.”

Entry for Friday and Saturday is free for pensioners, the physically disabled and children under 6, those 13 and over pay R50, children aged 6 to 12 years pay R30 and on Sunday December 2, when Sybil and Judy Boucher perform, entry will be free for children under 6, children 6 to 12 years old and pensioners pay R60 and those 13 and over pay R150.
