School setwork on stage

Mbongeni Ngema and Percy Mtwa

Mbongeni Ngema and Percy Mtwa reprise their original roles – created some 40 years ago – in their theatre classic, Woza Albert! at the Baxter Theatre from Tuesday February 5 until Saturday March 2, at 7.30pm and Saturday matinees at 2pm. Based at the height of apartheid, the two characters ask the question, “What would happen if Christ returned to South Africa?” From this seemingly simple thought, the two actors developed the stage play with renowned theatre-maker and co-founder of the Market Theatre, Barney Simon. Woza Albert! previews at the Baxter Flipside from Tuesday February 5 to Thursday February 7, opens on Friday February 8 and runs until Saturday March 2. There is an age restriction of 13 years. Tickets cost from R135 to R195. There is an early bird special of R100 if you book before Thursday January 31. Book through Webtickets or Pick n Pay stores.
