Robben Island Museum (RIM), in partnership with the national Department of Tourism, will be hosting an open day on Heritage Day, Saturday September 24.
RIM and the department will be giving 1 600 free tickets to Capetonians for a return trip to the island, to create awareness on the importance of preserving Robben Island as an iconic national and World Heritage Site. The open day is fundamental in creating access for local communities and the cultural enrichment of South Africans and will form part of Tourism Month celebrations, says RIM.
Free tickets will be issued to people throught the media and NGOs.
Winners will be treated to a ferry ride and a prison tour on the island.
