The police, along with various other groups, held an abuse awareness drive in New Horizon, on Saturday, as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign.

Information pamphlets and food were handed out in the community during the campaign, which saw involvement by the Grassy Park Youth Desk Crime Prevention Unit, New Horizon Neighbourhood Watch, the Western Province Women’s Network.

“Gender inequality and stereotypes are what creates the ongoing animosity to stigmatise, abuse and create gender domination and superiority,” said Saadiqah Ganief, from the Grassy Park Youth Desk Crime Prevention Unit.

Food had also been provided, she said, because it wasn’t possible to learn on an empty stomach.
