Autumn open garden

Soil for Life held its autumn open garden on Saturday May 5. Based in Constantia, Soil for Life holds workshops to help people learn to grow healthy, organic food using simple, low cost and environmentally friendly methods. Natasha Buttress, pictured, of Retreat is one of the NPO’s trainers working in the Retreat, Cafda, Lavender Hill and Steenberg areas. Here she is demonstrating drip irrigation using a cooldrink bottle pierced with a hot needle and sunk into the soil. The cap works as a valve – the tighter it is screwed the more water is used.
