The founder of RWS, Jeff Paulse, said the books were distributed on the back of a study by the Department of Basic Education and the UN Children’s Fund (Unicef) that found that 43% of South African households had no access to books at home. Garlandale, Athlone North, Rosewood, Arcadia, Nerina, Mimosa, Central Park, Sonderend, Red River, Primrose Park, Rahmaniyeh, Rylands, Star College, Sunnyside, Riverside, Chameleon, Elswood, Islamia College, West End, Mitchell Heights, Heathfield, Harmony, and Belhar primary schools were among those that received books as well as Athlone High School, the Callas Foundation and Caterpillar Academy.
