Grassy Park police is asking the community to come forward with information that can lead to the arrests of two men who robbed a doctor’s surgery on Thursday May 31 in 5th Avenue, at about 12.30pm.
The men entered the surgery, tied up the assistant and doctor and threatened them with a gun. They then robbed them and two patients of money, cellphones and other valuables.
* A 70-year-old man was hit by a stray bullet in Lotus River on Wednesday May 30, at about 10pm.
He was rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital and a case of attempted murder has been opened.
* The Metro Police Gang and Drug Task Team arrested five suspected gang members in Lotus River on Wednesday May 30.
Officers were alerted to random shootings in the area at around 10.30pm. While patrolling, they stopped a VW Golf at the corner of Bosbok Way and Rietbok Avenue and found a pistol, six rounds of ammunition, dagga and money in the car.
Five suspects, aged between 18 and 26, were arrested and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
The acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Christian Esau urged residents who witness any crime to come forward and assist police to make sure that criminals are brought to book.
“In order to alleviate such crime it is best to remove the criminals from the community.
The reward system proves to be fruitful.
“This system allows any adult to become pro-actively involved in the prevention of crime. and criminals can be reported and a reward could be received by the reporter,” said Lieutenant
Colonel Esau.
