Newly elected councillor for Ward 66, William Akim has made it clear that his main priority is to help the residents in his area in whichever way he can.
Although he was officially elected as ward councillor last month, replacing Melanie Ar-endse, Mr Akim is well familiar with council processes and issues in the ward because he was previously the DA Proportional Councillor of Ward 66, which covers Lotus River, Parkwood, Ferndale and Ottery.
Mr Akim, who lives in Parkwood, said he was honoured to have been elected as ward councillor.
“Firstly I want to thank God for his blessing who made it possible that I have being elected as councillor of Ward 66, and the voters in our ward how have cast their vote.
“We have many challenges in Ward 66 but I believe that together we can make a difference in bringing change to our ward,” he said.
Mr Akim said some of the main issues he will be addressing include illegal dumping, unemployment, safety and security, and backyard dwellers.
“I have always being a community volunteer in the ward and have built strong relationships with every organisation in the area. I am very passionate about rendering services to all residents in our ward and that drives me.
“I will always go the extra mile because it’s the small things that count,” said Mr Akim.
He also wants to establish street, flat and block committees and give support to neighbourhood watches to boost safety in the area.
Residents can visit him at Ottery Multipurpose Centre in Bruce Road, from Monday to Wednesday, from 9am to 2.30pm, and at Parkwood Community Centre, from Thursday to Friday, from 9am to 2.30 pm.
PR councillor Elgan Fortune will be available at the Parkwood Community Centre, from Monday to Wednesday, from 9am to 2.30pm, and at the Ottery Multipurpose Centre, from Thursday to Friday, from 9am to 2.30pm, to address any concerns.
“I hope to continue the good relationship I’ve had with residents. Sometimes we cannot please everyone, but I will try my best to provide services to the residents of Ward 66,” said Mr Akim.
