In response to last week’s article “Renewed calls to fence canal” (Southern Mail, Wednesday February 19), the City is aware of the matter and is investigating the feasibility of fencing the area.
The ward councillor will be kept informed of the progress on this matter.
All requests for fencing are investigated by the appropriate line departments.
However, due to high incidents of crime in certain areas, ward councillors have been requesting that specific avenues abutting open spaces be closed off.
This will now be investigated.
Issues that require a law enforcement response can be reported to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre by dialling 107 from a landline or 021 480 7700 from a cellphone.
Fencing for Community Parks largely comes from ward allocations, while the department also makes internal budget requests.
