The Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire in Phumlani Village on Wednesday February 5 at 4:20pm, the second fire this year in that area. Charlotte Powell, spokesperson for the Disaster Risk Management Centre, confirmed that 23 structures were destroyed and 45 people were displaced. Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service, said the cause of the fire was unknown and it had been extinguished by 5:27pm. “No injuries or fatalities were reported,” he said.
