A detective stationed with Grassy Park police was shot and killed in front of his house in Hlosi Street, in Philippi East, on Monday, around 6.15am.
Constable Lindekile Patrick Sikade, 39, was gunned down by unknown suspects as he was about to leave for work.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexanam said: “The member was sitting in his official SAPS unmarked vehicle when he was attacked and robbed of his official 9mm firearm.
“The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Elvis Jula has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the widow, family and colleagues of the slain member and has given his assurance that the criminals responsible for (the)attack will be sought with all the resources at our disposal.”
Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith, a colleague of Constable Sikade, said: “He was a very good detective, hardworking, diligent and nice person. He was an asset to Grassy Park SAPS. He will surely be missed by his colleagues. His dedication to SAPS and the community he served will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, our fallen colleague.
