Police need help solving murder and attempted murder cases after at least five shooting incidents last week.
Jarrad Collins, 24, was shot dead on the corner of Peter Charles Street and Blagden Avenue, in Cafda, on Monday October 3 (See story on page 1).
Steenberg police responded to the incident at about 6.30am.
It is alleged that a bakkie pulled up next to Mr Collins and somebody fired several shots at his head.
Eight cartridges and one projectile were found on the scene. No arrests have been made, said Warrant Officer John Bartlett, spokesperson for Grassy Park police.
In another incident, police received a call about a shooting near Muir court in Lavender Hill on Sunday October 2, at about 4.50am. Officers found 30-year-old Cassiem Samsodien, of Shepherd Court, with a gunshot wound to his head. He was declared dead at the scene.
A case of murder was opened and no arrests have been made.
A 30-year-old man was shot in to his right thigh when he was shot at St Alexander Circle, in Lavender Hill, on Friday September 30. No arrests have been made.
A 35-year-old man was shot in the foot in Orchestra Street, Steenberg, on Thurs-
day September 29, at 10.20pm.
On arrival officers found a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the foot.
Warrant Officer Bartlett said the man was standing in the street when he was hit by the bullet.
Police found 15 cartridges on the scene.
Also on Thursday September 29, at about 2.10pm, police responded to a shooting incident in Eltister Street, Lavender Hill.
A 22-year-old man had been shot and killed in the lane while a 45-year-old man had been shot in the right leg.
Wayne Theunissen of Beethoven Street in Steenberg was shot in
the face and chest multiple times and was declared dead at the
scene.
It is alleged that Wayne was walking in the lane towards Prince George Drive when two suspects pulled him back. The suspects fired several shots at the him and another group of men in the passage and then fled the scene on foot.
Grassy Park police officers had been patrolling the area when they heard the gunshots.
The officers saw three men running and getting into a white Toyota Corolla parked in Prince George Drive.
Two of the men were armed. The officers chased the vehicle, which came to a standstill in a road in Seawinds and the occupants fled on foot, but police managed to arrest a 22-year-old man from Ottery. He was de-
tained for possession of a stolen car and will also be charged for murder and attempt-
ed murder.
He was due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday October 3. The other suspects are still at large.
Nineteen cartridges, two bullet fragments and four projectiles were found at the scene.
