The husband of a Lotus River woman who was found dead in a shallow grave in 2017 has been charged with her murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Dwight Bowes, 39, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday November 1 for the murder of Abenise Bowes, 30.
Two years ago, Abenise’s body had been found in a shallow grave in Olympic Avenue, Lotus River, on Sunday April 2 after she was reported missing on Thursday March 30.
Grassy Park police spokesperson Captain Wynita Kleinsmith said the arrest came after an extensive investigation by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) and Grassy Park police. Autopsy results determined that Abenise had sustained fatal injuries as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
Captain Kleinsmith said officers went to Mr Bowes’ home in Farm Crescent, Ottery – which is located behind the crime scene – and surrounded him after a warrant of arrest was issued.
“The suspect tried to evade arrest, but was surprised when AGU members were waiting on him,” she said.
He was released on R5 000 bail.
