Join Southern Mail’s festive fun

Courtneigh Davids, from Strandfontein, performs jazz, pop, house and fusion music under the stage name Judah. She is on the line-up for the Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival.

The 4th annual Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival takes place from Friday March 27 to Sunday March 29 at Maynardville Park Carnival Grounds in Church Street, Wynberg.

The event aims to bring families together in a safe and fun-filled environment.

In 2019, just over 16 000 people attended the event and organisers are expecting more people through the gates in 2020.

Some of the Mother City’s finest artists and performers will display their talents on stage, with some even dropping brand new tracks, while small business owners will exhibit their innovative offerings on the grounds. Close to 1 000 vendors will be taking part in this year’s event, offering a wide variety of food, fashion, fun and gadgets.

There will also be carnival rides, including bumping cars, the Tornado, Mexican Hats and swings.

Organisers are hoping to create at least 600 part-time jobs over the festival weekend as stall vendors, security staff, cleaning staff, entertainers, crew, car guards, ticketing staff as well as for neighbourhood watch members, etc.

They aim to provide local artists and entertainers with a platform to showcase their talent while earning an income; heighten the profile of Wynberg and showcase it as a safe and stable community to do business in; promote local economic development; contribute towards community and nation building; promote local pride and help build an inclusive city where everyone feels welcome regardless of race, gender or creed; and unite people through music, song and dance.

Some of our top performers include Jarrad Ricketts, Judah, Mark Haze and Marce Underwood. More artists will be announced soon. KFM is back as the official radio partner and will broadcast selected shows live from the festival throughout the week-
end.

The festival is on Friday March 27, from 4pm to 10.30pm; Saturday March 28, from 11am to 10.30pm; and Sunday March 29, from 11am to7pm.

Entry costs R50 or R30 for pensioners and children aged between 6 and 12 years old.

Tickets are available through Computicket or at the gates throughout the weekend.
