A joint operation by various law enforcement agencies in Lavender Hill, Retreat, Cafda and the surrounding areas resulted in over two hundred traffic fines being issued and two arrests.
Steenberg SAPS, Traffic Services, Metro police and Law Enforcement held an integrated crime prevention operation on Friday August 26. The law agencies set up at three vehicle control points along Prince George Drive which resulted in 201 fines being issued to the value of R122 000. Police and Metro police also raided houses in Cafda, Lavender Hill and Steenberg where drug activity was reported. Metro police’s Sergeant Brian Small said there had been an increase in drug and gun activity in the Steenberg precinct. “This was why we decided collectively to have an operation of this nature where we searched houses identified for drug peddling, carried out search warrants and searched
people on the street and vehicles,” he said. He added that joint
operations are essential in crime hot spot areas.
