A 13-year-old Lavender Hill boy was allegedly kidnapped, in St Albert Street, but he and two other boys managed to get away, on Thursday, July 13.
Warrant Officer John Bartlett, spokesperson for Steenberg police station, said: “The boy was approached by an older man with a greyish beard and a younger child, who told him to get in a silver Hyundai with no registration plates, at 10.20am.
“The man told the boy that the suspect was sent by his aunt to fetch him. The boy went with the man because he saw his aunt with this man getting into the same vehicle earlier.”
Warrant Officer Bartlett said, according to the boy, they drove to Cafda where the suspect picked up two more boys. The suspect went to an unknown house to use the toilet, leaving the boys alone in the vehicle. “Afterwards the suspect came back and he drove to Pelican Park. He stopped at a house there and told the boys to wait for a bakkie to load things on and he left.”
