Residents of the Aylesbury council flats in Ottery have welcomed the installation of outside lights there.
The lights were installed in early September following complaints from residents, according to ward councillor Kevin Southgate.
One of the residents, Amina Rossouw, 59, said she had suffered falls because of poor lighting at the block.
“I fell once and tore a ligament in my leg, and the next day I fell again and fractured my ankle,” she said, adding that she had no medical aid and still had to find R90 to pay a medical bill.
The “pitch darkness” at the block had also left residents vulnerable to crime, she said, adding that she hoped the situation would improve now the new lights had been installed.
