Kannemeyer Primary School (KPS), in Grassy Park, was recently given a bus called Skhaftin, which means lunchbox.
Principal Ridwan Samodien said it was donated by Ilka Stein, founder of the Skhaftin Bus which is a mobile grocery store initiative developed in 2020 to promote plastic-free shopping and access to healthy foods.
When she donated the bus to the school, she encouraged them to use it to promote the concept of reuse, reduce and recycle.
“We will use the bus to sell food and clients can come with their own containers, thereby reducing our carbon footprint,” he said.
