Man arrested for armed robbery

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday August 24 for an alleged armed robbery in Old Strandfontein Road, Ottery.

The suspect allegedly tried to rob a taxi driver at gun point, but the driver managed to get away and alert law enforcement officers, who gave chase on foot.

Law enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, said:  “They managed to apprehend the suspect from Hanover Park, who was found hiding underneath a caravan.”

The taxi driver positively identified the suspect.

The gun was also found on the scene and on close inspection turned out to be a replica firearm.

The suspect was arrested and charged at Lansdowne police station for armed robbery and possession of a replica firearm.
