Law enforcement was called to a food shop in Victoria Road, Grassy Park, to quell a dispute on Sunday March 3.
A newly graduated auxiliary officer, who responded to the call, found that the situation had escalated to the point where the local neighbourhood watch was asked to intervene.
The officer joined the watch and immediately noticed one of the men in the shop reach for something in his pocket.
The officer prevented him from retrieving the item from his pocket and went about searching the man.
He discovered an unlicensed 9mm Parabellum firearm, two magazines and 26 rounds of ammunition.
The 25-year-old suspect from Lotus River was arrested and taken to Grassy Park police station.
Law enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, said, “The quick action of the officer prevented a possible damaging shootout in a public place and resulted in another illegal firearm being taken out of circulation.”   Â
