Man killed in Steenberg

Police found drugs hidden in a children's backpack.

Steenberg police are asking the community to help them solve the case in which 37-year-old Salie Williams was shot dead last Tuesday, June 21, in front of 92 Sonata Street, Steenberg.

Police arrived on the scene at about 21.50pm and found his body with four gunshot wounds to the chest and seven cartridges nearby.

The motive for the killing is unknown as the family of the victim told officers that he was not a gangster.

Steenberg police are investigating a case of murder and there have been no arrests yet.

* Steenberg police arrested a 22-year-old man for dealing in drugs in Flute Street, Steenberg, on Wednesday June 22, at about 7pm. Officers of Steenberg police responded to a tip-off about possible drug dealing at the house and after searching one of the rooms, found a pink children’s backpack bag with 681 mandrax tablets and 27 blue tablets suspected to be ecstasy. The man appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on drug dealing charges.
