The science evening at South Peninsula (SP) High School also honoured some of its feeder primary schools who took part in a Maths Olympiad at the school in June. The winners were awarded at the prize-giving ceremony on Wednesday August 8. According to Adnaan Ederies, the head of mathematics at SP, the school has embarked on a strategy to seek closer links with the feeder primary schools by sharing ideas in the teaching of mathematics and assisting primary schools in preparing their pupils for high school mathematics. SP has partnered with the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) that was established by the Skills Development Act (1998) and began operating in 2000 to promote the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects. UWC and CHIETA sponsored the prizes at this event.
