Southern Mail last week published a round-up of how some schools fared in the 2017 National Senior Certificate matric examination (“Matrics raise the bar”, January 10).
This week we publish the actual number of pupils who wrote the exam at each school.
Here are those numbers:
* Christel House South Africa’s pass rate decreased from 100% in 2016 to 97.8% in 2017. In 2016 48 pupils wrote and 48 passed and in 2017 46 pupils wrote and 45 passed.
* Crestway High School’s pass rate decreased from 71.2 % in 2016 to 69.3 % in 2017. In 2016 118 pupils wrote and 84 passed and in 2017 88 pupils wrote and 61 passed.
* Fairmount High School’s pass rate decreased from 95.5% in 2016 to 89.6 in 2017. In 2016 110 pupils wrote and 105 passed and in 2017 96 pupils wrote and 86 passed.
* Grassdale High School’s pass rate decreased from 94.1% in 2016 to 91.2% in 2017. In 2016 105 pupils wrote and 95 passed and in 2017 91 pupils wrote and 83 passed.
* Grassy Park High School’s pass rate decreased from 91% in 2016 to 77.2% in 2017. In 2016 177 pupils wrote and 161 passed and in 2017 149 pupils wrote and 115 passed.
* Heathfield High School’s pass rate stayed the same at 75.2%. In 2016 121 wrote and 91 passed and in 2017 133 wrote and 100 passed.
* Immaculata High’s pass rate decreased from 95% in 2016 to 93.7% in 2017. In 2016 80 pupils wrote and 76 passed and in 2017 79 pupils wrote and 74 passed.
* Lavender Hill High’s pass rate increased from 68.8% in 2016 to 88.6% in 2017. In 2016 144 pupils wrote and 99 passed and in 2017 123 pupils wrote and 109 passed.
* Lotus High School’s pass rate decreased from 75.7% in 2016 to 57.7% in 2017. In 2016 37 pupils wrote and 28 passed and in 2017 26 wrote and 15 passed.
* Pelican Park High Schools’s pass rate decreased from 96.9% in 2016 to 88.3% in 2017. In 2016 97 pupils wrote and 94 passed and in 2017 103 wrote and 91 passed.
* Sibelius High’s pass rate decreased from 89.2% to 67.3%. In 2016 93 pupils wrote and 83 passed and in 2017 101 wrote and 68 passed.
* South Peninsula High’s pass rate increased from 97.9% in 2016 to 98.9%. In 2016 193 pupils wrote and 189 passed and in 2017 190 wrote and 188 passed.
* Steenberg High’s pass rate decreased from 96% to 85.1%. In 2016 200 pupils wrote and 192 passed and in 2017 228 wrote and 194 passed.
* Wittebome High’s pass rate increased from 84.1% to 85.6%. In 2016 107 pupils wrote and 90 passed and in 2017 118 wrote and 101 passed.
* Wynberg High’s pass rate decreased from 94% to 93.6%. In 2016 134 pupils wrote and 126 passed and in 2017 125 wrote and 117 passed.
* Zeekoevlei High’s pass rate decreased from 98.3% to 85.7%. In 2016 60 pupils wrote and 59 passed and in 2017 125 wrote and 117 passed.ok rm
