A non-profit organisation (NPO) is striving to turn talk into active citizenship through various initiatives which will empower and help communities across the peninsula.
The newly – established Collaboration for Good was officially launched at a high tea on
Sunday November 24 and has hit the ground running with a stationery drive and a support group for women that will start early next year.
The organisation was the brainchild of teacher and breast cancer survivor Nadia Charles, who is the director, with Ismail Charles and Farzanah Kader serving as co-directors.
Ms Charles has always been giving back in whichever way she could but in September she realised the impact that could be made through collaboration and crowdfunding. She raised money for a “coins for cancer” initiative for Child Cancer Awareness Month. This was the first project undertaken by the organisation.
Since then Ms Charles has registered the organisation and is planning many more projects, including a stationery drive for 300 stationery packs to be distributed to Saambou Primary School in Manenberg, Kannemeyer Primary School in Grassy Park and Thomas Wildschutt Primary School in Retreat during the first week of school.
“We want to help children become strong, confident, self- aware and mindful before they even get to high school and that is why we started out by adopting these schools,” she said.
With the motto “Love without prejudice” Ms Charles hopes to spread love and positivity out into the world through their various projects.
“We want to influence you to do good, to live your life’s pur-
pose and to make a positive
difference in this world,” she
said.
The monthly women’s support group heart2heart will start meeting on Monday January 6 at Kannemeyer Primary School from 6.30pm but no under-16s are allowed.
The support group offers a space to share their pain, past and present, feel encouraged, to feel like someone cares enough to listen to them, and to not suffer in silence.
Co-director Ismail Charles said the real work starts now.
The three directors said that they are willing to collaborate with any organisation, group or individual that has the same mission; to make a positive difference to one human, one family, one school at a time.
