No arrests after fatal mosque shooting

One man was killed and two injured in a shooting at a Wynberg mosque.

Police are combing through video footage to track suspects involved in a shooting outside Darul Kara Masjid, on the corner of Mars and Park roads, in Wynberg, last Friday, October 8.

Three men were shot after jumu’ah prayers, at about 1.50pm – two survived the shooting and a 29-year-old man was shot and killed in the car they were travelling in.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder. The shooting is believed to be gang related.

The three men were shot after jumu’ah prayers on Friday.

“The injured victims were taken to a nearby medical facility for medical treatment and the circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is unknown.”

Video footage and pictures of the aftermath of the incident were shared on social media where one of the men can be seen laying near the vehicle and the two other men still in the car – the driver was declared dead at the scene.
