Soil for Life will host their autumn open garden just off Brounger Road in Constantia on Saturday May 6, from 9am to 3pm.
The theme, “Start where you are, use what you have and do what you can”, explores growing food in an earth-friendly way using rubbish and readily-available materials.
Soil for Life’s organic gardeners will be giving talks and practical demonstrations throughout the day on composting, feeding the soil, hidden “treasures” in the garden, water-wise gardening methods and growing sprouts and micro-greens.
Refreshments, plants and organic vegetables will be on sale.
Entry is R20 a person and all proceeds go towards Soil for Life’s community Home Food Gardens programme, to help people in low-income areas create sustainable home food gardens.
Soil for Life is an NPO on a mission to grow healthy soil, people and communities.
They help people learn to grow organic food using simple, low-cost, environmentally-friendly methods with whatever resources are available.
