Parkwood shooting claims a life

A man died and a teenage girl was injured in a suspected gang-related shooting in Parkwood.

The 24-year-old man, who police say was affiliated to a gang in the area, was shot in the upper body in Parkwood Avenue last Thursday, at 5.15pm.

He died of his injuries in hospital, according to Grassy Park police spokeswoman, Captain Wynita Kleinsmith.

The 17-year-old girl was wounded in the leg.

Police arrested three men and two women after seizing an unlicensed gun and ammunition in Village Heights near Lavender Hill last Thursday night.

A tip-off led patrolling officers to a shack where they found a 7.65mm Brno pistol and eight bullets.

Police spokesman, Warrant Officer Wesley Twiggs, said the women, aged 21 and 22, and the men, two aged 18 and a third aged 19, were held at Muizenberg police station on unlicensed-gun- and-ammunition charges.

Later, at 11.25pm, another tip-off led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer in Vrygrond.

According to police, the 28-year-old man was arrested after officers found him with 59 sticks of dagga and 38 half-mandrax tablets at a house on the corner of Jonathan and Harmony roads.
