Staff at Pelican Park Community Day Centre (CDC) celebrated its one year anniversary last week.
The clinic served on average about 2 600 patients a month in its first 10 months of operation.
Since opening to the public on September 25 last year,1 871 HIV tests were conducted, 177 patients were put on antiretroviral treatment, 92 on TB treatment, 262 full immunisations for children younger than one were administered, 1 100 children were dewormed, there have been 2 256 patient visits for family planning and 310 first antenatal visits.
The City’s mayoral committee member for community services and health, Dr Zahid Badroodien, said the numbers are impressive considering that nearly five months into existence the country was dealing with Covid-19.
“They have done a sterling job, and made it through the peak without a single closure due to Covid exposure.”
He said the statistics stress the importance of the facility in the growing community of Pelican Park and surrounds. “I want to congratulate the staff and clients on this milestone,” said Dr Badroodien.
