Steenberg NPO Philisa Abafazi Bethu has kicked off their 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign with various programmes and workshops at their Women and Family Centre in Strauss Avenue.
The United Nations campaign takes place annually from November 25 (International Day of No Violence against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day).
The NPO’s campaign got off to a great start last week when an outdoor gym was unveiled at their premises, which ties in with their mission to create a narrative and space for women, children, older persons and families to be safe.
The workshops started on Monday November 27 and will run up until Thursday December 7 at their premises at 55-57 Strauss Avenue and topics range from protection orders, senior citizens, foster or emergency parents, maintenance and job-seekers to Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and labour law matters.
Dates are as follows:
On Wednesday November 29: The Department of Social Development and Justice have an information session on emergency parents and foster care, from 10am till 1pm.
On Thursday November 30: the Department of Social Development and Justice have an information session on maintenance (papgeld), from 10am till 1pm.
On Friday December 1: a job-seekers workshop for men will take place, from 10am till 1pm.
On Monday December 4: an information session will be held with the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit from, 10am to 1pm.
On Thursday December 7: an information session will be held with FL&A Consultants for people who have been unfairly dismissed, treated unfairly at the workplace or for those who have labour-related questions, from 10am to 1pm.
