A routine patrol led to the arrest of a known gang member who was caught with an illegal gun and ammunition, police say.
According to Steenberg police spokesman Captain Richard Marcus, officers were patrolling Lavender Hill on Tuesday March 15, at about 6.30pm, following reports of heavy shooting, when they spotted two men running away from them.
The officers chased the men on foot through several properties and were fired on twice.
One of the men disappeared in between the houses but the other suspect was caught in St Simon Street in St Montague Village.
Police say he was carrying a 9mm firearm and six rounds of ammunition.
