Religious leaders led a prayer walk through Lavender Hill after several killings in the area.
Pastor Henry Naude, of the Prayer Intercession and Healing Network (PIAHN) ministries, said: “We invited all churches, mosques, non-profit organisations and the community to walk with us, and we walked from St Christopher Road, in St Montague Village, through Depsiton Crescent, in Lavender Hill, and back. We were praying for God’s divine intervention after many people were killed in our area. The gang war flared up in 2012, and we started doing prayer walks and talks in tents. Then it was quiet for a while, until recently gang violence flared up again.”
He said the PIAHN ministries were having prayer meetings every month. “We want peace. Gangsters are fighting for territory to sell
drugs.
“Pastor Basil Leukas and I started the ministries to pray for God’s intervention.”
Mr Naude said they were planning to have a massive prayer walk on Saturday November 19, at 10am and then will have a sports day on the field in Blode Street and Depsiton Crescent. “At the same time other areas such as Manenberg and Hanover Park will also have a prayer walk.”
