The City of Cape Town last week demolished the remnants of the old Lotus River clinic in Klip Road.
Currently, City Health awaits the appointment of a service provider to remove the rubble from the site, Janine Willemans, media liaison officer for the City of Cape Town posted on Facebook.
This should happen in the next week or two, she said.
“In the interim, the site has been handed over to the City’s Property Management Department for potential sale on behalf of City Health.
“Until the site is completely cleared and secured, City Health has requested regular surveillance by Law Enforcement to prevent unauthorised occupation.”
The Lotus River Clinic was closed in 2014 after numerous incidents of vandalism and theft (“Vandals target old Lotus River clinic”, Southern Mail, July 26).
Recently there were also been concerns about the safety of the homeless sleeping at the site and of children playing there as the dilapidated old structure had looked ready to collapse.
