Public iftar at The Open Mosque

The Open Mosque, in Wynberg, will host a public iftar (breaking of the fast) on Saturday May 19, at 5.30pm.

Guests at the communal supper will be welcomed by melodious Arabic-English renditions of Qur’anic extracts.

Thereafter, it will be time to formally break the fast and perform the sunset (maghrib) prayers at 6pm.

Everyone will afterwards enjoy a homemade buffet prepared by Open Mosque volunteers. After the meal and the night (isha’prayers), Dr Taj Hargey, the president of The Open Mosque, will speak on the “Spiritual significance of fasting in Islam.”

This will be followed by a topical Q and A session that will shed further light on this key pillar of the Islamic faith.

Non-Muslim friends, colleagues and guests who might wish to fast on this particular day either in solidarity with Muslims, or so that they too can experience Ramadaan first -hand, are welcomed to do so. However, this is not a pre-requisite of attendance.

Seating is limited. Contact secretary@theopenmosque.org.za or 021 824 1400 before Friday May 18 to RSVP or for more information.
