The 1st Steenberg Brownies and Guides recently held their 60th anniversary Thanksgiving Service at St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Steenberg.

Linda Botha, district commissioner of Princess Vlei District, said the group had started in a municipal shed, then used the old library in Cradock Road, Steenberg community centre, Steenberg Scout Hall and are now back at the church hall.

Ms Botha said many girls who have been in the movement are successful in their careers today. “In Guiding they learn skills which are never forgotten. As a good turn we made 60 Jars of Hope, which were filled with soup ingredients. These jars were donated to the outreach group who sees to the social needs of (people affected by) HIV and Aids in the community.”

Sixty Jars of Hope were donated to charity.
