There has been an increase ATM and online scams in Steenberg, say police who are warning the public to be extra vigilant.
Steenberg police station commander Colonel Johannes Nel said people were falling prey to thieves at ATMs and being conned by crooks placing false advertisements on social media.
“Please be vigilant at ATMs and when using social media to buy items on sale,” he said.
“People should not accept help from strangers at the ATMs and should safeguard their banking details. Sensitive information such as identity numbers and PINs should not be shared over the telephone,” he said.
Anyone with any information about these crimes can contact Steenberg police at 021 702 9000, Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or use the My SAPS app.
