A 62-year-old Steenberg man was found dead in a pool of blood on his kitchen floor last week.
Just two months after his wife died of natural causes, the body of James Jacobs was found by his sister at his Cradock Road house, on Wednesday November 1.
His car, a grey 2004 Toyota Conquest, and compact discs worth
R5 000 were also reported stolen.
Warrant Officer John Bartlett said later that same day police arrested three suspects aged 25, 38 and 41, however, the 41-year-old man was released.
Steenberg police arrived at the house around 4.45pm last Wednesday and were informed that the house had been left unlocked for a number of days.
Mr Jacobs had regularly visited his sister during the week but when there was no sight of him on Monday and Tuesday, she decided to check up on him.
A family member, who did not want to be named as they feared for their safety, claims one of the suspects was known to Mr Jacobs..
“Someone who recognised the stolen car told me that the perpetrators were trying to sell it in Steenberg,” the family member said.
Warrant Officer Bartlett said Steenberg police are investigating a case of murder, theft of a motor vehicle and theft.
The suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Anyone with information regarding the case can call investigating officer, Detective Constable Sibulele Nkwenkwezi of Steenberg police on 021 702 9000.
