Tip-offs help police catch criminals

Steenberg police found several mandrax tablets in aLavender Hill house.

Police have arrested a 62-year-old Lavender Hill man on drugs charges.

Officers had raided the man’s house, in St Alexander Circle, on Saturday afternoon November 7, and had found 95 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R4 750 and an undisclosed amount of cash, said Steenberg police spokesman, Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

The man was due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court, on Monday, on drugs-possession charges.

Meanwhile, police arrested a 41-year-old suspected drug dealer in Vrygrond.

Officers had found 172 half-mandrax and four whole mandrax tablets in the ceiling of a Trevor Siljeur Road home, on Friday morning November 6, said Muizenberg police spokesman, Captain Stephen Knapp.

The man was due to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Acting Muizenberg police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Jaques Lourens, said the public could call the station at 021 787 9014/15 or 082 522 1213 with crime tip-offs.
