In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Tokai Lions Club has been providing food parcels, face masks and sanitiser to residents of Cafda Village in Retreat, Westlake and Mandela Park in Khayelitsha.
Forty-three families will receive a food parcel and a bag containing vegetables for eight weeks, with these items being delivered to their homes every Thursday.
Mark Rossouw from the Lions Club said hardship was rife in many areas, but the elderly and the unemployed were reeling under the duress caused by the pandemic and exacerbated by the lockdown.
The second part of this community outreach initiative included supporting two feeding stations in Lavender Hill and Steenberg, by providing bread and food items to them weekly.
The Tokai Lions Club thanked their donors who had made the initiatives possible.
