Scores of people have been left homeless after a fire razed their homes to the ground in Vrygrond near Muizenberg.
Approximately 500 wood and iron structures have been destroyed by the blaze which broke out yesterday.
No injuries were reported.
Twelve fire engines, four water tankers and a rescue vehicle with 68 firefighters was dispatched to the scene.
Fire and Rescue Service Divisional Commander Edward Bosch said due to the strong wind, it took firefighters just over seven hours to extinguish the fire.
“Firefighting efforts were hampered by strong winds as well as congested access streets.”

The fire comes just days after a deadly fire in Khayelitsha claimed the life of a 31-year-old man and left hundreds of people homeless.
In another incident, a fire left more than 1 300 people homeless in Philippi.
The Western Cape experiences a lot of shack and veld fires at this time of the year.
