Licence to thrill
Entrants in READ Educational Trust’s Word Warrior Competition have a chance to win a R1000 cash prize for themselves and a R5000 worth of books for their school. Last year’s competition saw the introduction of the literary character, Detective WW Inkomba (which means “clue” in IsiZulu), and entrants had to write a short story around him. This year, entrants must create a scenario in which the detectives writes a letter to the main suspect or witness in a mystery of their own making. The objective is too state details of the mystery, paint a picture of the addressee’s alleged involvement in the mystery, and whet the reader’s appetite to read further. The competition is open to children aged 9 to 16. Entries can be emailed to info@read.co.za or posted to PO Box 30994, Braamfontein, 2017 on or before Thursday October 31.
