Layla Moses, a student pilot, 19, launched a market for small businesses at Kannemeyer Primary School, in Grassy Park, on Saturday, August 31.
Ms Moses, who also runs her own small business, started learning about aviation in Grade 10 as an extra mural and attended lectures for it after school.
“In that same year I started my business called fromlayla2u, reselling things that I knew my peers were interested in. I reside in Lotus River, therefore it was fitting for me to bring together people of my suburb and show them how creative our community can be.
“The reason why I initiated this market is because I wanted to create a platform for small businesses or young entrepreneurs who do not get recognised because they have no/small social media platforms, or because they are too afraid to start a new venture,” said Ms Moses.
She said she did her intro flight at Morning Star Flight Academy.
She plans to see her careers as a pilot and an entrepreneur take flight.
“My next step is to expand my business in a way no one would expect a 19 year old female to do, while continuing my studies in aviation towards my commercial pilot licence,” said Ms Moses.
