EcoActive, a Muizenberg non-profit organisation that promotes water safety, held a gala on Friday last week bringing together pupils from Capricorn, Hillwood, Levana, Floreat, and Zerilda primary schools.
EcoActive founder and CEO Belinda Minter said the event celebrated teamwork, determination and fun and showed the talent and potential of the participants.
“We aim to provide experiences that build not only swimming ability but also life skills like perseverance, teamwork, and confidence,” she said.
Four Grade 8 and 9 pupils achieved junior lifeguard certification earlier this month after having participated in EcoActive’s galas during their primary school years.
They are now part of the organisation’s youth development programme, which offers high school pupils continued opportunities for learning and leadership development.
“EcoActive remains dedicated to water safety and empowering youth in vulnerable communities, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to thrive in and out of the water. Friday’s gala was a reminder of how small steps today can lead to significant milestones tomorrow,” Ms Minter said.
