Community crime fighters from the New Horizon community in Pelican Park have partnered to help keep their children just a little bit safer.
New Horizon Neighbourhood Watch and Grassy Park Youth Desk Crime Prevention Unit, hosted a Child Protection Matters programme in the area recently at which they took the fingerprints of the children living there.
The fingerprint drive was held at the soup kitchen of the New Horizon Neighbourhood Watch.
Saadiqah Ganief, treasurer of the New Horizon Neighbourhood Watch, said the aim of the programme was to raise awareness about missing persons and for children to be informed about the children who had gone missing and not been found.
“We wanted to advocate for the understanding of children’s rights. The importance of having your children’s fingerprints taken is to be prepared if any situation arises and particulars of the child are required. This form can be handed to the closest police start, to assist at a faster pace,” said Ms Ganief.
