Donovan Nelson, Ward 65 councillor
In a whole-of-society approach initiative, we made significant contributions to the academic readiness of Grade 12 pupils by providing essential stationery items to Grassdale and Fairmount high schools.
The handover ceremony, on Wednesday April 24 at Fairmount High School, was part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing educational outcomes in the ward.
The donated items included pencils, pens, paper, staples, staplers, power banks, scientific calculators, and files, among others worth R59 000. These materials are intended to support Grade 12 pupils as they prepare for their crucial final examinations.
Our mission is to remove barriers to success for our pupils, ensuring they can approach their final exams with confidence and without disruptions. It is essential that every pupil has the tools they require to perform their best, and I am proud to play a small part in facilitating this academic journey.
This initiative reflects my dedication to educational support within Ward 65, recognising that providing the right resources at a critical time can significantly impact pupils’ academic performance and future opportunities.
The stationery items will help ensure that all Grade 12 pupils at the two schools are well-prepared to tackle their exams with the necessary resources at their fingertips, aiming to reduce stress and promote a conducive learning environment
