The Cape Dance Company will present its season, entitled sacredspace, at the Artscape Theatre from Saturday December 3 to Saturday December 10.
The classical-contemporary dance company, under the artistic direction of Debbie Turner, returns to the Artscape after highly successful seasons at the Klein Karoo Arts Festival, the National Arts Festival main programme and the Joburg Theatre.
The show is principally sponsored by the National Lotteries Commission and includes a newly commissioned work by the South African born choreographer, Andrea Schermoly. Featured artists in this season include Ipeleng Merafe, Celeste Botha, Marlin Zoutman, Carmen Lotz, Thamsanqa Njoko, Nathan Bartman, Olivia Parfitt, Ciara Baldwin, Gemma Trehearn, Given Mkhize and a supporting cast.
Lighting design throughout the production is by the award-winning Wilhelm Disbergen.
Due to the success throughout South Africa of A Thousand Shepherds, choreographed by Jose Agudo, the work will be reprised by popular demand once again this year. Starring Nathan Bartman, it is a moving piece and an exploration of humanity.
The award winning Enemy Behind the Gates returns as well, choreographed by Christopher L Huggins. It was re-staged last year to incorporate a double cast of 50, the largest complement of dancers ever used in this ballet.
