Tina Schultz, Matron, Parkhaven Old Age Home, Wynberg
I am the matron of Parkhaven Old Aged Home which was established under the auspices of the Western Province Society for the Elderly, a branch of the Western Province Baptist Women’s Department, in 1989.
We have a management committee and board of trustees and 35 residents.
We have three annual functions to raise funds but with our escalating economy our fund-raising is insufficient to see to the daily needs of our aged. Every year we have a Christmas lunch and this year it will take place on Sunday December 8.
I am appealing to you for some help in whatever way you can. We will appreciate it if you could donate anything towards making the residents’ party special. Our aim is to make them feel special because that is what they are. I also see to gifts for them in the line of toiletries. Our menu for the day consists of a lunch and a tea party in the afternoon.
Here are some examples of our needs and we leave it up to you to decide in which way you can possibly help us. Your assistance will be highly appreciated.
Christmas lunch meat: chicken, corned tongue, corn beef, gammon, roast beef
Salads: green salad, noodles, coleslaw, pineapples, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet lemons
Puddings: trifle, fridge tarts, ice-cream. Juices: Appletizer and afternoon tea cakes, chocolates, chips, crackles, meebos, peanuts and raisins.
Thank you for your assistance.
