After making soup and vetkoek for children in Lavender Hill for two weeks in a row during May, community worker Michelle Arendse approached the Roomanys, who are shop owners, asking if they could make a donation of bread. Instead they offered to make a 100-litre pot of akni for the community in honour of two family members who have died. “I want to thank them for the donation and I also want to thank the women who helped me dish out the food to the children,” said Ms Arendse.
