The City of Cape Town says it seems the appeals to the public to report illegal sales or use of fireworks is paying off.
Law enforcement officers, who were following up on a tip-off, confiscated firecrackers at a shop in the Pelican Park Shopping Centre yesterday.
The confiscated items included 185 counterfeit CDs, 25 boxes of widow maker firecrackers, eight boxes of black spider crackers containing 60 pieces each.
A fine of R1 500 was also issued for selling fireworks without a permit.
The City said as we get closer to Guy Fawkes, the use and sale of firecrackers will increase.
You can report any transgressions to the Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700.
