Thanks to a quick response a fire at a recycling company in Retreat was contained.
Fire services were called at 10:17am on Monday October 5 to a fire at KC Recycling Solutions in 10th Avenue, Retreat.
Edward Bosch, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue service, said vehicles and firefighters from Ottery, Constantia, Lakeside and Fish Hoek fire stations were sent out to the fire, which was contained by 12:25pm.
“Upon arrival, a single storey factory building used as a recycling plant was found to be well alight. Quick initial firefighting efforts prevented the spread to neighbouring properties. Our crews remained on scene for a considerable time to ensure the area was safe,” he said.
It took four fire engines, one water tanker, one hydraulic platform, a rescue vehicle and 26 firefighters to put out the fire.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
